Slander problem online.?
Can you really track someone through an IP address and is there anything I can do about a slander problem?
I have a slander /defaming/libel problem but it is happening online and I dont know who the specific person is doing it. My job has listing under a specific site where people can critique our work. Well some of the people I work with go on there and say horrible lies about me for everyone to see. It is bad enough to have to deal with these kind of people when I go to work ( I simply ignore it and I have never done anything bad to any of them), but Im not going to have them tarnish my character and spread lies about me online. Is there something I can do? Can the mother site trace the IP address of the people leaving the comments and give me their info or do 'I have to call a lawayer and have the lawyer call the company to get thsi info? Enough is enough and I have had it. I have stood by for a long time and ignored it, but they are going too far.
Tracking IP address legal issues slanderous comments ect?
I suggest using a site that has more accountability for peoples actions. One which you must make a profile with some basic info. That way, if someone leaves rude, malicious, or slanderous comments, then it is linked back to the profile and they are accountable.
You may also try emailing the webmaster/admins of the site and ask them to remove the slanderous comments. Threatening them with an "or else" legal action usually has effect as well.
If you really wanted to get litigious about it, it's a pretty involed process. First you would need to obtain the IP addresses of the slanderous parties from the website, and, depending on how much they log, they might not even keep track of this. Then you need to find out the ISPs of the particular IPs and obtain who was using that particular IP at the time, and, depending on how much they log, they might not even keep track of this either. The IP might not even belong to a particular user, it may be one that is shared throughout a network of various users. All in all, it's a time consuming and expensive process.

that is the rumour i believe u can track through a pc, but... there are softwares on the net that will block your ip from appearing on the net

I doubt that the site would be willing to give out private user information... Its likely that you would have to use a lawyer to get anything useful out of them.

No site is willing to hand over their data to you just like that. You are out of luck. Even if you could get the ip, you still can'r really trace it. Most ip's will lead to the ISP not to the person. So you should just ignore and continue doing a good job.
