Hillary Clinton comments about Dr. King?

I didn't hear the complete story about what she said, but what I did hear was that African-Americans were offended because she said LBJ had a lot to do with civil rights and that his civil rights record wasn't actually all that great. Can someone explain to me what her comments were and why they were found offensive? I would really like to know since I don't understand. Thank you.

She said that King's dream only started being realized when the president signed an equal rights bill. Blacks were not as offended as the media made it out to be.

She said MLK's dream was inacted into law via LBJ (who did so to his own political detriment. Blacks don't like it because they feel it exudes plantation mentality and whites are confused because the statement is true

you got jist of it.i also don't know what is causing all the discontent.

but it is nice to see her vilified by the black community like bush has been as well as 99% of the republicans.

"Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton came under fire when she was quoted as saying King's dream of racial equality was realized only when President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964"

Basically she said it was LBJ not Dr. King who made equality a reality. Which was a little arrogant on her part, as Dr. King was the voice for change in the African American community at that time.

It was a backhanded compliment to King saying it was actually LBJ that should get credit for civil rights in the '60s

Dems/Libs always trying to take credit for things they could never dream of.

I think Hillary needs to get a grip about Dr. King.

King would been proud we have had a two black Sec. of States and one being a woman.

We have a black on the supreme court.

I think all this talk about how the blacks are keep down is just a way to keep their job security in refusing to acknowledge that great progress has been made since MLK.

Yes we have a ways to go but we are way ahead of many other countries.

Those who don't think so I suggest you travel the world for awhile.

I was slightly upset but not as mad as the media said the way i took the comment it seem like she was giving LBJ credit for Civil rights reforms that Dr. King helped make possible. Its like a DJ playing a good song on the radio do we give the credit to the DJ or the song Writer for making a Great song. yea President Johnson passed a law but Dr. King made it an issue He made it relevant. Dr. King made the people want it and once the people wanted it the President would be wrong not to do it. So while LBJ can get a little credit I believe the lions share belongs to Dr. King.
