How to: get over ignorant comments?

i'm 17, and at work i am always getting comments from the guys (ages 19-36) about my weight. i'm much smaller than almost all of them, and they always say they're joking, i try to let it go, but it still gets to me. I'm 5'4'' and 125 lbs, and i know thats not fat, but i used to be a lot smaller when i did gymnastics. idk if it helps but i don't carry weight to make me look heavier, i measure 35''-26''-35.5''...

they just say things to the effect of get off that table ur fat a** is ganna break it, are those love handles, that better be sugar free..etc. and again, they do say they are joking afterwards- but im a girl, and i have that "image" issue every teenager has. i just need to know ideas of how to not let this bother me..non of their other comments get to me, i'm layed back about everything else, but they're bring down my self esteem, and i'd just like some help...

How to: get over ignorant comments?

It might be nice to have a snappy comeback, I'll admit. I also wish there were some magic formula to give you that would let you wipe it out of memory. Unfortunately, there isn't one. What I can offer is an observation that nobody can hurt us unless we choose to let them. Unless somebody is important to us, and we value their opinions, then nothing anyone else says is worth more than the air they used to speak it. I assume you told these bozos that the remarks hurt, and they continue to say them anyway. So that only leaves us with the realization that they are doing in purposefully to get a reaction out of you, or to hurt you. And lets face it, they are bozos. Are bozo opinions really worth anything? Are they worth the energy it takes to even get upset for a moment? No, they aren't. And that is what you need to tell yourself. Your self confidence is a matter for your control, your decisions- not something to be influenced by anyone else unless you determine their opinion counts. You don't have an image problem unless you want to have one, and I certainly wouldn't have one because of the remarks of a few guys. Are any of them the sort of guy you would even want? Probably not. So ignore the idiots and roll their opinions off your hide. You can even tell them so- that they can say what they like because their opinons aren't worth spit. Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one, and you already know what to expect to come out. You don't expect to find golden eggs, you expect a pile of poo. And is the opinion of a pile of poo important? There, now you can put it in perspective, and leave it where it belongs.

well, contrary to what the school health class pamphlets say, you cant raise self esteem. You are an insecure person. Either start exercising and get even more fat free so that you yourself dont believe it, or just tell them to stfu.

It is a sad thing that you are working with a whole bunch of immature idiots. At least the 19-year olds have the excuse that 19 year old guys are some of the dumbest things in the world, but the older guys should do a bit growing up, as well.

On the mature-looking side, the 'boys' harrassment DOES constitute harassment at work, and you should tell your supervisor of it. If your supervisor is one of the morons making the comments, just go to his superior, etc.

You should not have to tolerate this borish behavior, and because it is affecting you, it can be considered having to work in a hostile environment.

And NO, you are not overweight. Your weight and measurements are envied by those of us who are also 5'4" but not 125 pounds.
